Shell retiring as New Hanover Co. Manager

Bruce Shell is retiring from his job as New Hanover County Manager. Shell made the announcement Monday afternoon during a New Hanover County Commission meeting. His last day will be June 30.

County adopts plan to replenish Carolina Beach sand

UNCW women beat ODU for first time; UNCW men also win this weekend

The Old Dominion women's basketball team had beaten UNCW 42 times in a row until Sunday afternoon. Cynthia Cooper-Dyke's team beat ODU on the road on Sunday. Buzz Peterson's UNCW men's basketball team also picked up a road win this weekend.

Joe Paterno, the longtime Penn State coach who won more games than anyone in major college football but was fired amid a child sex abuse scandal that scarred his reputation for winning with integrity, died Sunday. He was 85.
