First rabies case of 2012 reported in New Hanover County

New Hanover County Animal Control Services has confirmed the first case of rabies for 2012 in New Hanover County. ACS officers recovered an injured feral cat from a Hart Street residence in Wilmington on Wednesday. The cat was euthanized after exhibiting neurological signs and sent to the State Lab for testing.

Food Lion closing more than 100 stores, none in our area

Belgian supermarket chain Delhaize says it is cutting almost 5,000 jobs in the United States as it closes underperforming stores. No stores in our area will be affected.

New Hanover, Wilmington firefighters learn to work together

Firefighters from both the county and the city are going through special training this week to help them better interact with one another in times of need. Since automatic mutual aid dispatching began more than a year ago, the county and the city have responded to about 100 combined calls.
