video A scene no parent wants to stumble upon: A peeping Tom outside their daughter's window. A North Topsail Beach family says that's what happened to them. They were even more horrified when they say they realized the man outside their home was a police officer.

USO building celebrates 70 years

The Hannah Block Historic USO Building in downtown Wilmington is celebrating it's 70th anniversary this year. The World War II building on Second and Orange Streets has been open since December 1941 and still offers the same charm of years past.

Patrick Murphy, big-city police chief who urged restraint during turbulent era, dies at 91 in Wilmington

Patrick V. Murphy, a police reformer who urged officers to hold their fire as head of the New York, Detroit and Washington police during the turbulent 1960s and 1970s, died Friday. He was 91. Murphy died of a heart attack at a hospital in Wilmington, N.C., his son, Gerard Murphy, said.

FIRST ON 3: Brunswick Co. Social Services Board cancels next two meetings

The Brunswick County Social Services Board has scheduled two meetings scheduled before the end of the year, according to an e-mail from director Patricia Connelly. The move comes just days after a board meeting erupted in controversy when Chairman Charles Warren kicked board member Pat Sykes and a Brunswick Beacon reporter out of the meeting.
