video On Thursday night we went one on on with UNCW men's basketball coach Buzz Peterson to get his thoughts on the CAA opener this weekend. UNCW will face the VCU Rams on Saturday in Richmond, Virginia. On Thursday night we also featured high school hoops from Pender County where the winless Pender boys hosted undefeated New Hanover. Navassa Mayor calls newspaper article "a lie"

The city of Navassa has faced criticism in recent months for its handling of the city's finances, but now a new issue has come to light. Our partners at the Local News Review published an article Thursday saying Navassa Mayor Eulis Willis signed a contract with Shalimar Construction, in which the city would pay for 14 private sewer taps on private property.

New Hanover County Community Action back in the spotlight

video New Hanover County Community Action is in the spotlight again this evening. It's under investigation for allegedly misspending funds. Now, a Wilmington City Councilman's wife says she was listed as being on the board of the organization, but never served a day.

FIRST ON 3 UPDATE: Suspect arrested for fire at Independence Mall

Wilmington Police arrest a suspect after they say a fire was intentionally set at Independence Mall. Police arrested William Peacock, 48, who they say started the fire at Belk that caused it to be closed Saturday afternoon.

Trooper zaps trainee in buttocks

Ouch! A State Highway Patrol training officer horsing around at the magistrates office in the Wake County Jail last month accidentally stunned a trainee in the buttock with a Taser. It happened in the early morning hours of Nov. 27, when the training officer pulled the trigger of his Taser without a cartridge loaded. That makes a loud popping noise, but doesn’t fire the weapon.

Family gets help after losing home to fire, 911 problem

A Columbus County family lost their home to a fire last week after they say they got no response from 911. The Smiths are living with family while they try to sort everything out, and donations are beginning to come in.
