Police not sure where, why NHHS student shot near campus

Wilmington Police say a New Hanover High senior was shot in the leg near the school and was taken to the hospital. Police are still trying to figure out exactly where the shooting happened and just what happened to send a young woman to the hospital and close down the school.

UPDATE: State denies charter school application for Virgo; school board reacts

video The application passed its initial review yesterday by a sub-committee; however, when the application came before the entire board today, it was denied with the primary reason being concerns about the design of the governance of the proposed charter school board.

North Carolina Gov. Bev Perdue has vetoed a bill that would have essentially repealed a 2009 law designed to address alleged racial bias in death penalty cases.
