Local drivers doubt cell phone ban while driving

video The National Transportation Safety Board says after completing its investigation into a deadly car crash in Missouri, it found that texting caused the accident that killed two people and injured 38 others. The NTSB is now recommending that every state ban the use of cell phones, hand-held or hands free, behind the wheel. Drivers in Wilmington say they don’t think it will work.

$10,000 reward offered for return of stolen jewelry, silver

The victim of a break-in that was reported Sunday afternoon is offering up to $10,000 for information leading to the recovery of a rare gold necklace and / or the large quantity of heirloom silverware that was stolen. These items have sentimental value for the victim.

Warren kicks Social Services Board member out of meeting twice

video The Brunswick County Social Services Board meeting today got out of hand with two people getting kicked out and even threatened to be arrested. Board member Pat Sykes says she was just speaking up for what she believes was right when she was told to leave.

SECU presents $1 Million challenge grant to Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter

SECU Foundation, funded solely by State Employees’ Credit Union members, recently announced a challenge grant of $1 million to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation Closer to Home SECU Hospice House Capital Campaign to build an inpatient hospice facility in Brunswick County.

Battleship bow repairs finished

Taylor Brothers Marine Construction finished the project within the contract time frame and under budget. The company replaced steel plates at the "wind-water" line on the starboard bow.
