Judge rules cities can't fight anti-annexation

The process by which landowners can block a few North Carolina towns and cities, including Wilmington, from scooping up their land can continue while municipalities and their citizens challenge new laws that overhaul the state's involuntary annexation rules.

ONLY ON 3: Riel back in court, trial date set

For the second time this week the former North Brunswick High School band teacher accused of sexting a student was in court. Mark Riel is charged with indecent liberties with a minor after allegedly sending an inappropriate text to a student in January.

Whiteville High alum, football great Chester McGlockton dead

video One of the best football players in the history of the Cape Fear region has died. Whiteville High School alum and former NFL Pro Bowler Chester McGlockton is dead at the age of 42. He died overnight in California.

Fight over annexation continues

video The petitions are in, and the people have spoken but the fight over annexation is far from over. The city of Wilmington and four other cities across the state have filed a lawsuit against the State of North Carolina, the North Carolina Board of Elections, and multiple county’s Board of Elections.

Could Terry Sanford and Topsail wind up in the same conference? What about Purnell Swett and Hoggard? This possibility raises loads of questions, but discussions for high school re-alignment at this time are preliminary.
