Big Talker FM, other Sea-Comm stations, sold to Davis Media

The buyer for five SEA-COMM MEDIA stations in Wilmington is DAVIS MEDIA, LLC. The deal, widely reported last week with no specific buyer named, has yet to be filed with the FCC and no price was disclosed.

Progress Energy raising rates

Following two years of price reductions, Progress Energy Carolinas customers in North Carolina will pay slightly more for electricity beginning Dec. 1, reflecting increases in the cost of power plant fuel and energy-efficiency programs.

Global Nuclear Fuel won't contest NRC fine

Federal regulators wants to fine a Wilmington-based Global Nuclear Fuel. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has proposed a $17,500 civil penalty against Global Nuclear Fuel–Americas LLC for violations of NRC requirements related to a March incident at the fuel manufacturing facility.

Occupy Wilmington issues first news release

The General Assembly of Occupy Wilmington NC, with a current member total of over 1,000 residents in Wilmington and surrounding areas, has voted to file 501c3 and pursue nonprofit status as the first step in a long term program for financial and economic change that must start on a local level.

UPDATE: Students to report to class as usual, after search for gunman locks down UNCW

Classes are going on as scheduled at UNC Wilmington after the campus was locked down overnight. The security measure was put in place around midnight after a man reportedly robbed at least one person in the parking lot of a Hardee's on South College Road and then ran off through campus.
