New Hanover Co. Schools discuss D.C. Virgo becoming a charter

video D.C. Virgo Middle School is closed this school year, but Tuesday night the New Hanover County School Board discussed options to reopen the school. The main option the school system is considering is opening D.C. Virgo back up as a charter school.

Central wins Columbus County middle school football championship

video Central Middle School captured the Columbus County middle school football championship on Tuesday night. Central and Hallsboro were tied at halftime, but Central knocked off the defending champs with an impressive second half.

Kids enjoy fright-free event at Battleship North Carolina

It was a spooktacular good time for kids at the Battleship North Carolina Tuesday night. The event is designed to not be quite as spooky as others. From super heroes to little monsters, tiny tots dressed up in their Halloween’s best for the 3rd Annual Batty Battleship Halloween Bash. Kids could enjoy pony and camel rides, freshly popped popcorn and of course, lots of candy.

Treasury Secretary visits Corning; pushes American Jobs Act

He was in Wilmington today to discuss the proposal and to tour a manufacturing company that could play a key role in improving our information infrastructure.

Aquarium offers trick or treating under the sea

If you are looking for a spooky, but safe place to take the kids trick or treating, you may want to think about going under the sea. The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is having its tenth year of trick or treating under the sea starting Wednesday evening.

Construction of KB Ocean Front Park underway, not without hiccups

video The project, located on Atlantic Avenue, will include public restrooms, a playground and pavilion. The new space has been many years in the making and about $4 million from the town and grants for its development. There was a hiccup in the construction of the 3,500 square foot pavilion.

SBI in Oak Island investigating allegations of corruption

The SBI is investigating allegations of corruption in Oak Island, according to the NC Attorney General's office. The AG's office says agents conducted an initial assessment and then formally opened an investigation on October 18, 2011 at the request of the District Attorney.
