Local insurance agent arrested on alleged embezzlement charges

A local insurance agent has been arrested and charged with embezzlement. Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin says Earl E. Gay, 58, of Leland is charged with 14 counts of embezzlement by an insurance agent.

Swimming advisory issued at Caswell Beach

The advisory affects waters at the public beach access at Lighthouse Park off Caswell Beach Road in Caswell Beach, where test results indicate a running monthly geometric mean average of 41 enterococci per 100 milliliters of water, based on five samples taken within a 30-day period.

ONLY ON 3: Leland police chief punched officer during bachelor party

video We have confirmed with two independent sources that Leland Police Chief Timothy Jayne recently punched one of his officers during a bachelor party in Myrtle Beach. The sources, who wish to remain anonymous, tell us Jayne slugged Officer John Holman and that other officers had to pull him off. Myrtle Beach Police were not called in to investigate.

That all might change come May after the North Carolina General Assembly recently agreed to put an amendment banning gay marriage on next year's ballot.
