For children too young to remember, 9/11 still creates perspective

video September 11, 2001, is a day many of us will never forget. But for some, it's a day they don't even remember. A group of fifth graders at Mary C. Williams Elementary were babies the day terrorists attacked America. They don't remember the events of the day that shook our world, but they have a pieced-together view of it from family members, teachers and the media.

Pender County to open debris sites Monday

Pender County will open two vegetative debris collection sites on Monday for residents to bring Hurricane Irene storm vegetative debris for disposal. Only vegetative debris will be collected at these sites. The sites will be open for debris disposal through Sunday, September 25, at which time material will no longer be accepted.

Former Bladen Schools chief, fire marshal among public workers indicted

video Former Bladen County Schools Superintendent Greg Killingsworth is among a group of former public employees in Bladen County indicted by a grand jury for financial crimes. The District Attorney's office says the grand jury returned the indictments Tuesday.

Firefighters hurt fighting apartment fire

Two Wilmington firefighter were taken to the hospital with minor burns while fighting a fire at Osprey Landing Apartments on Fall Drive. A WFD spokesman said the firefighters were hurt by falling debris.

President Obama to promote jobs bill in NC

The White House said Friday in a news release that Obama will visit the Raleigh-Durham area Wednesday to talk about the $447 billion program of tax cuts and new spending he unveiled Thursday before a joint session of Congress.

UNCW students come together to honor 9/11 victims

Students honored local first responders and those who served on September 11. The main attraction was the human formation of the twin towers surrounded by a pentagon. Thousands of students participated, and each held a name of one of the victims of 9/11.
