Middle school student braves the heat to help Pender Co. Animal Shelter

In the frigid cold, then 12-year-old Ari Garsh, volunteered his time and money to collect pet food at a local Lowe's food store for the Pender County Animal Shelter. Today, we caught up with Ari, now 13, as he braved the dangerous heat for a cause he truly believes in.

Hot weather, drought conditions contribute to algal blooms in Cape Fear River

The hot and dry weather that has dominated the area over the last several weeks is contributing to extensive algal blooms in the Cape Fear River and the Northeast Cape Fear River, according to officials with the NC Division of Water Quality.
