A local artist is helping others find their talent and joy through painting. An adult art class is teaching unconventional students how to create a masterpiece.
With every stroke of her paint brush, Cynthia O'Neal believes she is spreading happiness through artwork. As an accomplished local artist, O'Neal shares her talent by teaching an adult painting class. No experience required. "People come in all the time and say I can't even draw a stick figure and they leave with these amazing paintings and it's rewarding," said O’Neal.
With a canvas and some paint, student Aurora Perez said she believes in O'Neal's happiness theory. "I love it, it's another consciousness. Everybody who paints is happy and there is something very sweet about doing something like this."
O'Neal uses her years of painting experience to rub her talent off on others. She teaches with a step-by-step approach, guiding each stroke. "By showing them what I've done with each step, I think it's easier for them to do it," added O’Neal.
Ray Peters attended one of the art classes and said, "The only thing I do is paint walls at home and she talked me into it, and here I am. This is my first session and she's a good instructor."
Phil Drummond had not picked a brush in sixteen years, until he heard about O'Neal's class. He said it's his source of relaxing. "At my age, I need it. It's a good break from everything else in life and it's a good feeling to be able to come in here and complete a painting in one session. It's great accomplishment." O'Neal makes sure everyone who enters her class, leaves with a true work of art. No materials are required for the $45 class.
