Review for Marley & Me - Must Go! - Marley & me

31 December 2008 - 1:00am
Awesome movie. Real tearjerker. Fuuny, sad, tender. Only problem was I took my young daughter who was bawling at the ending and I spent the rest of the night consoling her.

Started out a little slow, but ended up being a really good movie. I am not a big Adam Sandler fan, but I enjoyed this one.

Review for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - So-So - depends on your taste of movie

31 December 2008 - 1:00am
i have to admit after watching it i found a close resemblence to The Notebook, it gave me that same kinda feel. although i thought the notebook was a little bit better. i didnt know to much going into the movie so i didnt know what to expect, such as the length of the movie haha. it kept me interested enough that i didnt notice i was sittin there for 3 hours so that is always a good sign. the aging of brad pitt and the way his life was because of it makes it a little more intriguing than your run of the mill love story, so if love movies are your thing i would think this will give you a new look at things. all in all it was a pretty good movie, but not my kind of style of movie so it didnt rock my world.

Review for The Tale of Despereaux - Go - “THE TALE OF DESPEREAUX” -- A Mouse shows the Power of No-Cower =

24 December 2008 - 1:00am
This is the animated story of an unusual little mouse with super big ears named Despereaux (voiced by MATTHEW BRODERICK). The other mice see him as somewhat odd because, rather than “cower” about things as they’ve been taught to do, he instead has an outgoing, fearless and brave attitude towards the world around him. Rat Roscuro (voiced by DUSTIN HOFFMAN) plays a discontented and role-shifting character as the cause of sadness in the kingdom, and servant girl Miggery Sow (voiced by TRACEY ULLMAN) lives an equally unhappy role in the palace. The human characters have the angularity and bulbousness of Dreamworks-type animation, while the animals have a wonderful, sophisticated sense of movement and character. While I found the story somewhat convoluted and weak in parts (& possibly scary to some very young kids), there’s an infectious enthusiasm of all involved, and thus you’ll be likely to enjoy seeing why the tag line “Small Hero. Big Heart.” is very appropriate.

Review for Seven Pounds - Go - Seven Pounds

22 December 2008 - 1:00am
This is a good story with a powerful main character. It was fairly predictable after about a third of the film passed. The emotions shown by most of the characters ere strong and believable. I believe this film is for young adults and everyone older. The story line was the film, there was nothing special about the filming or the scenery. I can sure see some awards coming to this very good film. If it causes a tear or two to fall, then you, the viewer, got the message. The popcorn was great too.

Review for The Day the Earth Stood Still - Go - Not so bad

19 December 2008 - 1:00am
I was really looking forward to this one, being a big fan of the original. Yes, the original IS better, hands down. That said, though, this one isn't as bad as some people are making it out to be. The special effects are fantastic. The whole beginning sequence of events was well done and suspenseful - and I loved Gort! At times the movie seemed a bit slow, but then again I suppose the original was, too! The only real thing I was truly disappointed in was the ending. I won't give it away, of course, but I will just say that it was really abrupt! I wanted more! Oh well. The plot could have been deeper and the characters fleshed out a bit more, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. Go see it - just don't expect a big blockbuster type film. Seeing it in IMAX would be a great plus.

Review for The Day the Earth Stood Still: The IMAX Experience - Go - Didn't need a remake anyway.

17 December 2008 - 1:00am
Went to the IMAX showing of TDTESS and was thoroughly entertained. Kept my interest from start to finish. Did not want Klatuu to have much personality as others. This movie was made the year I was born and went out to celebrate my birthday in 1951. Satisfied.

Review for Slumdog Millionaire - Must Go! - Intense, spectacular...crushing yet touching

12 December 2008 - 1:00am
This movie is a feast for the eyes, from the familiar lighting of the set of Who Wants to be a Millionaire to the crummy spectacles of the Mumbai slums to the elegance of the Taj Mahal...and a few locations featured in recent terrorist attacks. The characters of both worlds can be very cruel. Political thugs, slum thugs and police thugs abound in this film, all shown in flashbacks relating how the lead guy who grew up in the slums happens to know the answers to the Millionaire questions. When you're not cringing, you'll be sitting on the edge of your seat, wondering what amazing event was hard won to produce the answer for the quiz show. A few places, I had to hold my hand over my elderly mother's eyes with a "ooo...don't watch this." But the cruel events melt into an overall sweet experience. A very unusual movie, which was sold out in the two adjoining art movie houses. We had to come back the next night to see it. Don't miss it.
