It is a big week for local anime fans. Aniwave is holding its second annual Anime Festival. Anime is animated film from Japan. Unlike American cartoons, anime can deal with themes for a more mature audience. Festival organizer Michal Wisniowski said he noticed the large Wilmington fan base when he visited anime events in other parts of North Carolina. “We have quite a few high schools. We have the Cape Fear Community College, and UNCW. That tends to be the demographic that is the most familiar and perhaps the most interested in anime,” Wisniowski said. The festival kicks off Monday night at Jengo's Playhouse on Princess Street. Events will run through Thursday.
