App State student found in Tenn. says he was kidnapped

CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) -- Investigators in Tennessee are questioning a report by an Appalachian State University student who says he was abducted and shot.

The Charlotte Observer reports Matthew Burleson of Stanfield was found in Johnson County, Tenn., on Wednesday after texting family members that he was shot and trying to make it to a hospital.

When police spotted his truck in Tennessee, it ran off the road. The Watauga Democrat reported a gun registered to Burleson's father was found nearby. Burleson is in stable condition with a gunshot wound.

David Burleson says his nephew doesn't remember anything. But Johnson County Sheriff Mike Reece says there is something off about the report.

David Burleson says he's upset by investigators asking if his nephew used drugs or had relationship trouble.
