For the past week Whiteville High School has been on high alert after rumors of gun violence in school. Friday night they're carrying the extra security over into the football game.
The rumors of gun violence came after a murder last Friday in Lake Waccamaw after the Whiteville at East Columbus football game.

Fire officials say that most of the flames are gone but the smoke won't dissipate anytime soon. The state's Division of Forest Resources says the rain showers over the past few days have done nothing to reduce the smoke, and they can't tell how long it will linger.
