Vikings Compete In Cross Country State Championships, Wofford Named First Team All State

The Hoggard Boys' and Girls' Cross Country teams both competed in the NCHSAA Championships on Saturday. On the boys' side, senior Charles Wofford (pictured) finished sixth overall and was named first team all state for his efforts. Just a few seconds off his personal best, Wofford showed why he has been out in front during conference meets for the past few seasons. The Hoggard girls finished fifteen while NHHS' Shelby Howell was the top local finisher in the girls' race.

Wildcats Coast To Round Two Win

The New Hanover soccer team rolled to a 5-0 win over Cape Fear on Saturday in round two of the NCHSAA Playoffs. The Wildcats have not lost since September 18 and have now outscored their opponents 99-13 on the season. And like Saturday's game, it could be a larger margin if Coach Al Pastore didn't have to repeatedly call of the dogs... or Cats in this case.

Senior Liz Schaab posted a game-high 19 kills and sophomore Ashley Jones recorded her fourth triple-double of the season as Georgia State held on for 3-2 (25-22, 31-29, 17-25, 23-25, 15-12) victory over UNC Wilmington in Colonial Athletic Association women's volleyball action Saturday at the Georgia State Sports Arena.

High School Football - NHHS/Hoggard Set For Showdown

Hoggard and New Hanover did not look past Friday's opponents; both teams posted big wins as they prepare for next week's showdown which will determine the Mideastern Conference Championship. Local scores... Hoggard beat Jacksonville 52-14, New Hanover downed West Brunswick 38-7, and Laney was topped by White Oak 28-7.

Eight months after tying for second in the Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball race and posting the biggest turnaround in the NCAA Division I ranks, UNC Wilmington has been picked to finish 11th in the 12-team league in 2008-09. On the ladies side, sophomore Brittany Blackwell and senior Sahsha Taylor were Pre-Season All-CAA selections and UNC Wilmington was tabbed to finish sixth in the CAA.
