Things got off to a shaky start for the New Hanover Wildcats Friday night in the opening round of the NCHSAA Football Playoffs. Northern Durham, the eleventh seed at 5-6, took the opening possession right down the field and punched it in the endzone. After a couple of big pass plays, Jerone Holman’s touchdown run put the Knights up 6-0, just 1:36 after kickoff. Things changed quickly however as Tray Brown, pictured, and Jia Partee ran wild and the New Hanover defense settled down.

Defender Brendan Ennis scored the game-winner as fifth-seeded Northeastern continued its run through the Colonial Athletic Association men’s soccer tournament on Friday, upsetting top-seeded UNC Wilmington in penalty kicks at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNC Wilmington rallied from 18 points down in the second half to force overtime and then outscored Appalachian State, 12-5, in the extra period to trim the Mountaineers, 108-102, in a wild men’s college basketball opener for both teams Friday night at Trask Coliseum.

ELON, N.C. -UNC Wilmington used a 21-2 run midway through the second half to break open a tight contest and pull away from Longwood, 71-50, in the opening game of the ISES Cancer Awareness Tip-Off Friday at Alumni Gym on the campus of Elon University. It was the season opener for both schools.

It wasn't pretty... but it wasn't a beauty pageant anyway. Without dominating on the scoreboard, Hoggard dominated play and advanced in round one with a 23-8 win over Pinecrest.
