Lightning strikes cause fires

Severe weather across the area has kept first responders busy the past few days. On Saturday, Wilmington fire crews worked for the better part of an hour putting out a house fire caused by a lightening strike.

Car show benefits football program at Laney

Instead of school buses, antique cars took over the parking lot at Laney High School. Officials say this year's Laney Car Show was bigger and better, with double the cars and double the people who all love horse power.

Cold treats for a good cause at Rita's

Customers had an opportunity to chill out at Rita’s while helping a good cause by donating a dollar to the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, which is dedicated to finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Skateboard clinic offered at Greenfield Grind

Greenfield Grind Skate Park is hosting a beginner’s clinic for new skateboarders at Greenfield Park in Wilmington. The clinic gives kids a chance to hop on a board and get one on one instruction from skateboard pros.

Southport starts to celebrate Independence Day

The city of Southport kicked off its Fourth of July Festival Saturday with its annual Freedom Run. Dozens of joggers participated in the 5K and 1K races that circled historic Southport along the Cape Fear waterfront.

Maggie reels in big prize at Marlin Tournament

videoFor the second day in a row, participants had to weather a storm on the way back to Wrightsville Beach, but one group of guys from Atlantic Beach did little complaining. They captured first place at the Cape Fear Blue Marlin Tournament on Saturday.
