Pender's Addison Spruill signs with Brevard

video It took a bit longer than expected, but Pender's Addison Spruill finally made his collegiate choice official. He signed on Tuesday with Brevard Community College in Florida. Pender's Andrienne Bannerman also signed on Tuesday. She'll play college basketball at Erskine.

McIntyre to vote against raising debt ceiling

The US House of Representatives votes tonight on a bill to raise the nation's debt ceiling by $2.4 trillion. It's not expected to pass, because the measure contains no spending cuts.

Burlington man rescues $200,000 Powerball ticket from garbage

James Dixon matched all five white balls in the May 21 drawing but tossed the ticket in the garbage after checking his numbers in the newspaper. Fifteen minutes after taking the garbage out for pickup, he realized the numbers he checked were from a previous day’s edition. Something told him to get his ticket from the garbage and compare his numbers to those on the lottery’s website.
