Pender wild fire burns more than 18,000 acres, still not contained

video The wildfire in Pender County is still burning out of control. Crews are plowing multiple fire lines across the holly shelter game land in hopes of keeping the fire from crossing the highways. It seems to be growing by the minute. Just today, the fire grew about 8,000 acres totaling more than 18,000 acres in all.

27 eastern counties now under burn ban

Burn bans are in effect for 27 eastern NC counties, including Bladen, Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties.

Owner of alleged puppy mill arrested

Authorities in Caldwell County have arrested the owner of a kennel and seized 276 dogs, some of them suffering from serious infections and living in dirty cages stacked atop one another.

Bladen County wildfire destroys homes; burns 1,300 acres

videoSome of the attention involving wildfires in our area has now shifted to Bladen County. Work crews for North Carolina Forest Services are trying to contain a fire that is believed to have started because of lightning that struck Monday night. That fire has now burned a large section of land near White Oak and has destroyed at least three homes.

ONLY ON 3: Mentally handicapped woman's bike stolen
