Legislative redistricting proves very unpopular at public meeting

It was civics in action at UNCW Thursday night. The 2010 Census results mean the need for legislative redistricting. So the state legislature is changing the lines regarding our representation in the state House and Senate and the US House of Representatives.

More aircraft joining fight as Pender wildfire grows

video The Juniper Road Fire in the Holly Shelter Game Land continues to grow. As the fire moves across Pender County and into Onslow County voluntary evacuations are in place and shelters are open.

NC Forest Service plans to burn 2,700 more acres in Bladen to control wildfire

video Crews are still battling a wildfire in Bladen County. So far that fire has spread across 1,300 acres. The forest service is working to contain it.

Attention draws to a tardy Brian Berger at meeting with fellow GOP leaders

It's been nearly two weeks since New Hanover county commissioner Brian Berger was arrested for a domestic dispute. Berger showed up 20 minutes late and avoided our cameras at the county GOP’s monthly meeting. Fellow commissioners appeared to be in good spirits but the attention was obviously drawn to Berger.

Dutch man building ark to Biblical specs

An hour outside of Amsterdam in Dordrecht, Netherlands, a ship is under construction. But this ain't your typical sailboat, bub. Johan Huibers is building a full-scale replica of Noah's ark.

Drivers Beware: State gas tax going up again next week

North Carolina's gas tax will increase 2.5 cents to 35 cents per gallon starting July 1. NC drivers now pay a combined state and federal gas tax of 51.2 cents per gallon. That's one of the highest rates in the nation, and the second highest in the Southeast, according to the American Petroleum Institute.
