School Board member asks colleagues if they've failed students

Yesterday Dr. Derrick Hickey asked the school board if they think they have failed the students of New Hanover County. Hickey says this was part of a spirited debate that started over a one-percent increase in teacher bonuses.

Big changes coming to gun laws in NC

Eastern North Carolina wildfires take toll on the public's health in coastal counties

The NC Division of Public Health has been monitoring hospital visits for acute respiratory conditions in the Piedmont and Eastern regions of the state and has observed an increase in visits to hospital emergency departments in the following coastal counties for the week of June 18-24: Beaufort, Bertie, Carteret, Dare, New Hanover and Pender.

video You may notice colorful swatches of yarn popping up in random places. These pops of art are taking over the world from London to Amsterdam to right here in the Port City. A group of local artists is trying to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary by yarn bombing things like light poles and parking meters.
