New Hanover Co. schools looking to hire contractor previously convicted of fraud

video The New Hanover Board of Education was considering hiring a contractor who was previously convicted of fraud. In February, Lee Cowper, a Wilmington commercial contractor, pled guilty to federal mail fraud. The school board's design consultant for a renovation project at Wrightsboro Elementary School has reportedly recommended Cowper for the job.

Thousands in the dark after Greenville power outage

Utility officials in Greenville say a failed lightning arrester caused a power failure that left about 25,000 customers without light and air conditioning for about 20 minutes.

Wilmington City Council approves Wrightsville Sound Small Area Plan

Wilmington City Council members approved the Wrightsville Sound Small Area Plan at its meeting Tuesday night. The vote comes after six community meetings were held to get stakeholders’ and the public's input on the plan.

Flight 22 Blizzard Athletics team falls short in the finals of Myrtle Beach AAU tournament

video Wilmington has an all-star AAU basketball team. They're a strong squad, but they couldn't keep up with another team from North Carolina on Tuesday, a team that has players committed to both Wake Forest and Virginia Tech.

In an effort to do this, we are showcasing the people and groups doing good around our area and how you can get involved. The world can be changed if you "just add hope." Carolina Canines is an organization made up of volunteers who train service dogs for people around our area and around the country who are disabled or need therapy.

Arson trial reveals teen's connection to Sen. Soles

video On day two of the Allen Strickland arson retrial jurors heard from several witnesses including an agent with the State Bureau of Investigation. Megan Kwalick interviewed Strickland hours after the July 2009 fire. In that conversation Strickland told Agent Kwalick about his financial connection with former state Senator R.C. Soles.
