Barfield dismisses Melissa Gott as commissioner candidate despite GOP backing

video Last week New Hanover County Commissioners ran into a roadblock in deciding whether to pick up Melissa Gott to act as their temporary fifth board member. Because of confusion over Gott's residency, commissioners decided to wait. But now, Chairman Jonathan Barfield says Gott has got to go.

Police identify man stabbed to death overnight

A man is dead after a stabbing early this morning in Wilmington. Wilmington Police say it happened in the 3600 block of Metting Road around 12:30 a.m. Police are investigating it as a homicide.

Brunswick Co. teacher prepares for trip of a lifetime

Funeral arrangements set for Sgt. T.J. Butler; protest, show of support planned

video A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, 411 Market Street, Wilmington, with Dr. Jim Everette officiating. Interment will follow in Wilmington National Cemetery with full military honors.
