Pat McCrory talked throughout the campaign about how North Carolina was broken and how he wanted to be governor so he could fix the state.
The voters chose him last week, and now the first Republican governor in 20 years has a lot riding on his ability to follow through with his pledge to repair the state.

Officials say a fire that has burned more than 800 acres on Pilot Mountain has been contained. Surry County EMS director John Shelton says a fire line was completed around the blaze Monday morning.

The state Highway Patrol says a Transportation Department employee died on N.C. 12 when his dump truck rear-ended one that had broken down on the highway.
