An N.C. Highway Patrol trooper is on administrative duty after the patrol cruiser he was driving hit and killed an 80-year-old Clinton man.
Patrol spokesman Sgt. Jeff Gordon said Trooper Emory T. Brown was driving north on N.C. 242 near Salemburg Tuesday night when his vehicle struck Ottis Parker as he crossed the road.

N.C. 12 on Pea Island is open again to four-wheel-drive vehicles, but authorities warn that rapidly changing weather conditions could force them to close it again with little notice.

Four crew members aboard a North Carolina Air National Guard plane fighting Western wildfires were killed last summer because the crew misjudged conditions and flew into a wind burst that slammed them to the ground, an Air Force crash report says.

Carolina Beach Police detectives need help identifying two men involved in the theft of credit cards and fraud. The incident occurred on the night of November 7 at the Islander Kwik Mart in Carolina Beach.
