Runners laced up this morning for a 5k race called "Gallop for the Gravy." The race took off at the YMCA on Market Street and wrapped around Wilmington. Runners of all ages participated in the event, some running just for fun while others pushed themselves to finish first.

A man who reportedly fired shots inside his Pender County house about 11:30 a.m. Thursday, was critically injured when he wrecked his motorcycle in an attempt to escape police , officials said.

Published reports say two people are dead after a car accident in Bladen County. Highway Patrol says the accident happened on Twisted Hickory Road between Bladenboro and Elizabethtown.

After the Wrightsville Beach Flotilla fireworks end Saturday night (approx. 7:30 p.m.), NCDOT plans to close traffic eastbound onto the beach and allow two lanes of traffic to flow off the beach.

He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just over a year ago and died Wednesday. The cancer had gone into remission following early treatments and surgery, but returned earlier this month.
