Former Sen. R.C. Soles is recovering after undergoing heart bypass surgery this morning at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Hospital officials confirm Soles was upgraded from critical to serious condition tonight.

Power, phone and e-mail service has been restored earlier than expected at the City of Wilmington's River Road Operations Center. Yesterday a crane accidentally knocked over a utility line that severed electrical and fiber optic lines to the center.
