Gov. Beverly Perdue has spoken to Mississippi's governor after she criticized the approval of last week's referendum banning gay marriage by saying it made North Carolina "look like Mississippi." But her spokesman said Perdue didn't apologize for her remarks.

The report says Benjamin Robert Williamson died from saltwater drowning.
