A funeral has been scheduled for a 4-year-old girl who died after the cross from a tombstone fell on her and her older sister.

Funeral set for Bladen Co. deputy killed in crash

A Bladen County Sheriff's deputy is dead after a car crash while responding to a call. The Sheriff's Office says just before 11 p.m. Friday, Dep. Dewayne Charles Hester, 39, died while responding to an in-progress assault with a deadly weapon incident in his marked patrol car.

Gov. Perdue won't block forced annexation changes

A bill allowing people who live in unincorporated areas to vote to halt forced annexations by towns and cities will become law now that Gov. Bev Perdue has refused to sign it.
