The East Columbus girls basketball team won three state playoff games last week, but the season came to a crashing halt for the Gators on Tuesday night in state playoff regional play. The UNCW baseball team has had more close games this season than normal. Unfortunately the Seahawks gave up three runs in the ninth inning on the road on Tuesday. Plus more! Full story...

Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin signed a settlement agreement today with homeowners insurance companies allowing an overall statewide average rate increase of 7 percent on July 1. The rate for the Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender county beaches though is going up almost 20 percent. Full story...

The Town of Leland held a joint meeting of the town council and the planning board to seek public opinion on the towns sign ordinance. Business owners were out in force to speak out against the new rules, which size signs based upon a business’s zoning. Full story...

A motorcyclist was killed after colliding with a semi-truck. Highway Patrol says the victim is Rodney Shyron Robinson, 44. They say Robinson was leaving his driveway at 4915 Natmore Road when he pulled into the path of a semi-truck. Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene. Full story...
