Playing their first game in eleven months, the Duke lacrosse team opened its 2007 season with a 17-to-11 victory over Dartmouth. It was a triumphant return for the Blue Devils, whose season was canceled last spring amid the rape allegations against three players.

The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired a scoring threat for their drive toward the NHL playoffs. The team picked up right wing Anson Carter from the Columbus Blue Jackets for a 2008 draft pick, giving the defending Stanley Cup champions some firepower to replace a pair of injured forwards.

The Carolina Hurricanes sent Ryan Bayda to their Albany affiliate three days ago. Today, they've recalled him from the American Hockey League team. Bayda is joining the Hurricanes for the fourth time this season, and this time is replacing Erik Cole, who is on injured reserve with an injury to a hip muscle.
