Arrest made in case of escaped prisoner

We have an update on an escaped inmate out of Brunswick County. Sheriff's deputies arrested Rosher Rodriguez-Aguilar's ex-girlfriend late last night. Crystal Murray has been charged with misdemeanor conspiracy. Investigators say she helped Rodriguez-Aguilar escape the county jail, by providing him with transportation, but Murray stands behind her innocence. For eight years, Crystal Murray and Brunswick County escaped inmate Rosher Rodriguez-Aguilar were a couple. Aside from the three young children they have together, Murray says she doesn't have any contact with Rodriguez-Aguilar, who family and friends call Romeo. Now, she's facing charges of misdemeanor conspiracy, for allegedly helping him escape from county jail by providing him with transportation. Murray says the Sheriff's Department thinks she may know where he is, but Murray says she has no idea where Romeo is. "If I do know any connections to Romeo, I will let them know, I mean, I will,” Murray said. Romeo was accidentally released from the Brunswick County Jail Sunday night, after authorities say a detention officer made a careless mistake. Romeo allegedly stole the identity of another inmate, Tony Torres. Brunswick County Sheriff John Ingram says there are multiple ways to check the identity of an inmate before they are released. The only way a mistake like this could have been made was if the officer neglected to follow protocol. Now, the department is launching an internal investigation into the officer, as well as the other inmate whose identity was taken. Murray says she has been trying to separate herself from Romeo and raise her three young children as a single mother. “I can't take the blame for what Romeo did to get him out of trouble, and get me in trouble. I'm the one taking care of the kids, and I can't." Crystal Murray says she was out of town at the time of Romeo's release from jail.
