Baby has toes chewed off by pit bull

There are a lot of comments stating that pit bulls are not family dogs and that they are very dangerous. The truth is that EVERY breed of dog can be deemed dangerous at one point. Is it the dogs fault? Should ALL of the breed be considered dangerous and be banned in a lot of places like the pit bull? NO! There are no "bad dogs" just bad owners. The ONLY reason pit bulls have such a bad reputation is because they are the NO.1 choice for dog fighters. It has been proven, by many temperament tests, that this is mainly because the pit bull is very loyal to its owner. You want a cold hard fact??? Here's one for ya: "According to the American Canine Temperament Testing Association, 82.5%of the American Pit Bull Terriers that took the temperament test passed, compared to a 77% passing rate for all breeds on average." And also: "Pit Bulls have achieved the fourth highest passing rate of all 122 breeds tested." Don't believe me??? Look it up. Just because people say that pit bulls and other breeds of dogs are more dangerous than others. I have owned pit bulls all my life...the pit i have now and my 2 year old daughter have basically grown up together. We got our pit about a month before my daughter was born and she never once acted aggressive toward any of us and neither have the other pits we have had. They were all just as lovable as can be. Our pit even sleeps beside my daughter's crib whenever she sleeps and any time she falls asleep on the couch or something, our pit curls up next to her. I can't find the article right now, but there was a case not long ago about a couple who left their baby in her crib while they went to make her bottle. They also left their dog, a pomeranian, in the room with her. The couple heard the baby screaming, so they ran in. Before they could get in the room in time, the dog had already jumped in the baby's crib and bit her face off and killed her instantly. A POMERANIAN!!!!! Do research before you say something next time please. And don't just focus on all the negative things you read about pit bulls.

Obviously this woman is not fit to raise a child or a dog. This is a horrible example of selfish and stupid behavior. Unless she was passed out cold from her "meds" she is bound to have heard that child screaming and just ignored him. Poor baby, please let someone who deserves a child raise him!

first you don't leave any strange dog around kids.if you are watching a dog who may or may not have been around kids PUT THE DOG IN THE YARD.in a way you cant blame the dog its the mom and dad who should have been watching better.there are no bad dogs just owners who make them that way

OMG - WHAT KIND OF MOTHER IS SHE? HOW DO YOU KNOW HEAR YOUR CHILD SCREAMING AND CRYING? WHY WAS THE BABY NOT IN A CRIB OR SOMETHING WHERE HE BELONGED? IT IS NOT THE DOGS FAULT, IT IS ALL IN HOW IT IS RAISED TO BE. I HAVE HAD PITTBULLS ALL MY LIFE AND HAVE NEVER HAD ONE TO BITE OR HARM ANYONE. THE MOTHER AND HER WONDERFUL BOYFRIEND ON THE OTHER HAD NEED TO HAVE THERE TOES CHEWED OFF, THE CRAP BEAT OUT OF THEM AND THE LOCKED UP FOR LIFE. THIS IS JUST PLAIN REDICULIOS.....

This is exactly why dogs should be kept outside. Animals are animals. They can bite at anytime. It's a shame how dogs are humanized.

Another Pitt Bull attack? NO trend here? Of course the owners must ultimately be responsible BUT there are certain breeds that are more prone to aggressive behavior and Pitt Bulls lead the way. There is fact after fact to back this up. NO trend here? Right?

Better yet, just do away with these dogs, all of them! People aren't smart enough to care for them properly.

Why would you be able to dog sit when you can't even take care of your child. The dog needs to die and the parents need to be in jail. A pit bull don't care who they bite. Pit bulls have alot to do with why we don't feel safe taking that summer walk. The pits are not the problem the owners are. These dogs are known for attacking kids. The question is what are they thinking about? Why was this kid attacked? Ok because you were high and sleep . Thats a sad excuse for a mother.How do we know that the mother did not chew the toes off. She sleep until the next morning geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh.GOD bless this child to recieve great parents that would love the child as they do themselves.

This story is sad yet disgusting. It is not even worth commenting on. I feel sorry for the innocent child. The parents and the child need our prayers.

I feel for that little boy. However, I do not have an ounce of pity for his mother, his father, or the dog. No matter what the excuse is, that little boy was not given the protection he deserves. It does not matter what breed the dog was--even if it had been a Chihuahua--it needs to be "put down" now! I hope that the courts give the max sentence to the parents. Especially to the mother, who was supposedly in the "SAME" room.

What kind of medication is prescribed to a mother of a four month old that is so strong she will sleep through a baby screaming? Truly, this is one time you cannot blame the dog. Strange dog, not used to the baby, looked friendly as can be on tv, everybody in the house is passed out, he probably got a response out of the baby and if the baby smelled like milk..... And where was this baby sleeping? Instead of in his crib in the bedroom, sounds like everyone had passed out in the living room with the dog running loose in the house. At some point, people have got to start taking some personal responsibility. A lady I work with has a four year old niece (in another state)whose mother turns her out on her own to run the neighborhood unsupervised. She managed to get into a yard where there was a dog and started messing with his food dish, etc. and the dog bit her. This entire family is up in arms because the county will not go onto these people's property and confiscate this dog and euthanize it. Four year olds have no business being outdoors without parental supervision in the first place. The dog was in his own yard minding his own business in a fence. I'm glad that dog is getting a break and I hope this one does too.

AND WHY DIDN'T DAD GET UP AND CHECK ON THE CHILD OR WAS HE "MEDICATED" AS WELL? WHY WAS THE DOG EVEN ABLE TO GET NEAR THE CHILD MUCH LESS CHEW THE TOES? THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND THE MAIN REASON "SOME" PEOPLE JUST DON'T NEED TO REPRODUCE. IT'S A SAD THING BECAUSE IN THESE SITUATIONS IT'S ALWAYS THE CHILDREN THAT SUFFER MOST. I WAS A SOCIAL WORK FOR 4 YEARS AND YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE SOME OF THE THINGS YOU CAN SEE GOING OUT TO THESE HOMES. I PRAY THIS CHILD DOES NOT HAVE TO GO THROUGH AN AMPUTATION AND THAT IT IS PUT INTO A SAFER MORE NUTURING ENVIRONMENT WHILE MOM AND DAD GET THE HELP THEY NEED TO BE BETTER HUMAN BEINGS.

There are so many things wrong with this story, I don't even know where to start! How would a dog, any dog, larger than 10 lbs be able to gnaw the toes off a child without the entire foot? How did the parents not hear this? Why would they let a dog they are babysitting in a room they are sleeping in? Really? I think there is more to it than these sick, poor excuse or parents are telling. I wouldn't be surprised if they did something. This dog is the one who is going to pay for it, I guarantee you, the parent's won't I'm sure.....

This story makes me want to throw up. What kind of people sleep through a baby crying as a dog chews its toes off? I'm sure we'll hear all about how remorseful they are. WHATEVER! Keep taking your drugs "mom and dad", get your slap on the wrist from our wonderful justice system for this horrendous crime and reproduce more children you're obviously not smart enough to take care of. I'll pray DSS takes this baby, foster care cannot be worse than having your little piggies gnawed off by a freakin' dog. SICK, SICK, SICK
