Beach businesses hope storms won't dampen Labor Day weekend

WRIGHTSVILLE, NC (WWAY) -- The tropics are churning. Hurricane Danielle is well out at sea, but expected to cause severe rip currents along our coast this weekend. And right behind her, there's Tropical Storm Earl.

It's still much too early to know what Earl will do. He's a long way out there, And a lot could change. Still, even the slim chance of Earl impacting our coast has beach business owners worried. It could hurt their lucrative Labor Day weekend. Restaurant and store owners are hoping the potential storm does not damage business.

"It's not something we can actually affect until it actually happens, so we just try to keep business going as usual," said Matt Rhoney at King's Store in Wrightsville Beach. "If something were to happen, it would definitely mess up a lot for the weekend."

Danielle and Earl are not the only threats out at sea. Another strong wave just behind Earl in the Atlantic is expected to become Fiona in the next several days.
