The Wilmington Swim League will be making a splash in the fight against cancer during their second annual “Swim For Cancer” fundraising event. The event will be held on June 21, 2010. It will be held at four different locations, each being a swim teams home pool. Teams participating are Pine Valley Country Club, YWCA, Country Club of Landfall, and Echo Farms Country Club. All money raised will be donated to the American Cancer Society and will be added to the funds raised by the New Hanover County Relay For Life.
Swimmers are fundraising by asking for a sponsor per lap they swim, or by asking for a flat donation. The swimmer will then swim on June 21 during their swim team practice. Each swimmer is motivated to raise $100. There will be between 450-600 swimmers participating in this event, with ages ranging between 4 and 18.
“Last year’s first annual event was a huge success, and all the swimmers are motivated to top last year!” said Kendal Klein, American Cancer Society Community Manager. “It is amazing to see how many kids are dedicated to this great cause and want to be part of the fight against cancer while doing something they love!”
