Bill Clinton defends wife's electability

CHARLOTTE (AP) -- Former President Bill Clinton says Republicans have attacked his wife for the last 15 years but that national polls indicate that people don't hate her.

Clinton was responding to remarks from the spouse of another candidate, Elizabeth Edwards.

Edwards is the wife of former North Carolina Senator John Edwards. She said in a recent interview with Time magazine that "hatred" against New York Senator Hillary Clinton makes her difficult to elect.

Bill Clinton says polling indicates otherwise. He was in Charlotte yesterday for a fundraiser for his wife.
