Biotech insiders talk mergers at NC conference

RALEIGH, N.C. -- An industry roiled by mergers and acquisitions gets examined at a North Carolina conference bringing together biotechnology and pharmaceutical insiders.

The Council for Entrepreneurial Development stages its annual biotech conference beginning Monday in Raleigh.

Speakers include executives responsible for some of the largest mergers in biotech history.

Genentech chief financial officer Steve Krognes discusses the merger of his company with Hoffman-La Roche in the largest biotech merger in history. Former GlaxoSmithKline CEO Ernest Mario talks about his experience with big mergers.

Raleigh-based Talecris Biotherapeutics chief executive Larry Stern talks about last year's largest biotech initial public offering of stock.
