BUCKLEY'S BLOG: January warmth, but cold not far away?
Submitted by Tim Buckley on Tue, 01/15/2013 - 9:48am.
We've been spoiled with some great January warmth lately, but Mother Nature is looking to even things out. Before you know it, January will become January again with cold air on its way for next week.
WEATHER DISCUSSION: Watch the video below for a little look behind the forecast.
Think this type of mid-winter warm-up is rare? It's not really. Looking back at the last 6 January's each one has seen temperatures into the 70°s at least once; even the cold years. The graphic below shows that so far this year we've had 5 days in the 70°s, which will likely become 7 days by Wednesday PM.
It's looking much more likely that the middle of next week will feature some of the coldest air to head our way all season. High temperatures will likely struggle to make it into the 40's for Tuesday / Wednesday. Our computer models have been harping on this for several days now. There have been many times this year where's they've insisted on a cool down that didn't happen, but this time the weather pattern overall is much better suited for a big chill, so I'm inclined to buy into it this time. We'll see!
Hope you're enjoying this January warmth while it lasts.
