BUCKLEY'S BLOG: Severe weather threat across NC tonight
Submitted by Tim Buckley on Thu, 06/13/2013 - 8:19am.
High heat and humidity are setting the stage for what could be an outbreak of damaging winds tonight across North Carolina.
Temperatures will soar into the mid 90's this afternoon with high humidity. Heat and humidity are the fuel that allows thunderstorms to grow and intensify, which will set the stage for high thunderstorm potential this afternoon.
A cold front digging south will collide with this heat, setting up a line of intense storms by late evening. These storms could be severe with damaging winds, and some hail.
Here are some maps showing our in house model (RPM) idea on when the storms will form and where they will go.
This type of severe weather outbreak will have very specific threats. It is not a tornado outbreak, and not a pop-up severe thunderstorm outbreak. Instead, storms will likely form in a line that heads its way into North Carolina all at once.
Make sure to stay informed as we head into tonight. Have a way to receive warnings, and keep it with WWAY for updates! The weather gets great on Friday and we have a beautiful Fathers Day weekend.
