FOOTNOTES IN HISTORY...

I've always been fascinated by Civil War History. Maybe it's the abundance of historic sites here in the Carolinas.

BACK TO THE 1970's...

It may be 2009, but it feels more like the 1970's. Bell-bottoms are making a comeback, the economy it tight, and gas prices are a constant concern.

THE DULL MONTH...

For local meteorologists, October is sometimes called "the dull month". I guess it's understandable.

CLASS IS BACK IN SESSION...

I was talking to colleagues recently about the Atlantic Hurricane Season. We were discussing how quickly the year has gone by. After all, August is here already!

NOT SET IN STONE...

Mid-January represents the "coldest" time of the year in southeastern North Carolina (climatologically speaking). Average daytime temperatures drop to about 55 degrees in Wilmington.

TWO STORMS, ONE NAME...

When Christmas time approaches, the last thing we want to talk about is hurricane season. To be sure, December hurricanes are rare- but not impossible. 1954's Hurricane Alice is a unique example.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN...

This past November, we "took the show on the road". We visited a different elementary school each week, broadcasting our weather segments live on the air.

BAD MEMORIES...

As far as the weather is concerned, many of us have nice memories of November in southeastern NC.
