Board to discuss Wishnask file with public on Friday

We may soon know why former Williston teacher Jessica Wishnask was suspended. After wavering back and forth as to whether to release Wishnask's personnel file, the NHC School Board has reached an agreement. The board will meet behind closed doors on Friday to release some sort of statement, which will hopefully address why 27-year-old Wishnask was suspended twice while teaching at Williston. She is now charged with taking indecent liberties with a 15-year-old student. Several sources tell us the relationship between Wishnask and the young boy has been going on for quite some time. Wishnask is at risk of losing her teaching license from the NC Board of Education. Wilmington police are investigating the teacher, and any contact she may have made with the boy during her time at Williston, and after. After leaving Williston, Wishnask moved on to teach at Pitt County. Her supervisor in New Hanover County actually wrote a recommendation for her, despite her suspensions. New Hanover County Schools Superintendent Al Lerch said the board will meet Friday to determine what the public should know about her past. The school board meeting will start out behind closed doors Friday at the Spencer Building on South 15th Street at noon. Shortly after, the board will open the doors to the public.
