CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Bank of America is paying for mortgages of police officers and others who are hurt or killed.
The Charlotte-based bank already helped Adam Pierce and his family. Pierce, a sheriff's deputy in Florida, was paralyzed from the chest down when he was shot in the line of duty.
Bank of America officials say they want to help others, including firefighters, teachers and medical workers.
Bank of America executive Floyd Robinson says it's the company's social opportunity and obligation.
Insurance policies can provide coverage, but they usually cost a few hundred dollars a year for a $150,000 home.
Bank of America is apparently the first to offer such a policy for free.
The deal is an expansion of the bank's Neighborhood Champions program.

mortgage ins.
Mortgage insurance does not cost a few hundred a year, try thousands. If it was only hundreds we would all have it.
wonderful gesture
I think this is great idea! Bank of America is providing a tremendous service for some of our most critical yet under paid and under appreciated public servants. Let's just pray none of them ever need it.
I assume they are talking
I assume they are talking about free mortgage insurance. I suppose they have to do something to cover the flap about giving illegal Mexicans credit cards. However, I suppose if you are not a policeman, fireman, medical worker or teacher, (somehow teacher does not belong here), they will hang you out to dry if you miss a payment. You are just not important enough. God bless America and BOA!!!
