Breast cancer survivors ready to celebrate

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk is coming to Wilmington.

The American Cancer Society held a kickoff breakfast Saturday at The Balcony on Dock Street to celebrate the Port City walk. Making Strides is not a race, it is a celebration of survivorship. It's a free event and registration is not required.

"Last year we had a small walk at Hugh MacCrae Park and we were considered a little sister walk of Raleigh," organizer Claudia Eastmond said. "Because we did so well with that event the American Cancer Society said Wilmington definitely needs to have a walk of their own."

WWAY news anchor Ann McAdams emceed the breast cancer walk kickoff. The walk is Saturday, October 17th in Downtown Wilmington. It will start at Grace Methodist Church.
