Brunswick Cares helps those in need

READ MORE: Brunswick Cares helps those in need
Some volunteers in Brunswick County spent the day reaping the rewards of giving back to those less fortunate. A rake, a pair of gloves, and a little sweat can sometimes be enough to give back to someone in need. This group of volunteers is adding the finishing touches to a newly built home with the help of Brunswick County. Their efforts are part of a county initiative called Brunswick Cares to build and landscape nine homes in 90 days. It is a federally funded program to rebuild homes for needy residents. Brunswick Housing Opportunities chair Brian Smith, said, "We need to get involved as a community and provide affordable housing to our central workers in the county." Many of the homes are occupied by elderly or disabled residents who are unable to do work on their homes themselves. Each resident went through an application process to qualify for a home that will be given to them free of charge. Volunteer, Cindy Trudeau said giving back with a little yard work is one thing she can do to help improve her community. "It makes you feel good knowing that you're helping somebody and that if you needed it somebody would be there to help," said Trudeau. For some, gardening and charity go hand in hand. Volunteer Barbara Perrone said, "I love gardening to begin with, and it feels good to do something for someone in your community." All the volunteers said the reward for their hard work will be simple. "I would love to see her face when she walks in," said Perrone. Eight of the nine houses are complete, and residents are expected to move in any day now.

Brunswick Cares

I would like to know how a person can get in touch with this organization. I know some people in Brunswick County that could benefit from this program but have no information on it.
