Brunswick County Health Department confirms no H1N1 in schools

READ MORE:
The Brunswick County Health Department says there are no confirmed cases of H1N1 in their schools. As of right now, there is not an increase in absenteeism, which is how the health department determines if a particular school may be plagued with an illness. Three weeks ago, one-third of the students at Brunswick Academy were sick. Since then, the county has not heard of any more unusual numbers. Deputy Health Director Fred Michaels said a lot of the panic is based on people assuming someone with flu-like symptoms has H1N1.

Hogwash

The reason that the Health Department can say that they are not aware of any cases of H1N1 in Brusnwick County Schools is that they are no longer collecting the data from the doctors in the county. They are not accepting samples so they can claim that they are not aware. The worst part of this is when information like this is published it gives parents a false sense of security. My son tested positive for flu today and we will be isolating him for the next 72+ hours along with the rest of the family. Brunswick County Health Department and the Board of Education should be ashamed of themselves once again for permitting this misinformation to be spread.

Thats Funny

Thats funny cause my child had it 2 weeks ago and he goes to a Brunswick County School and he got it from someone else at the same school! And yes, he was diagnosed by a REAL DOCTOR

It is funny

My son goes to South Brunswick High School and said there have been several students out with the swine flu, one was told not to come to school and was out over a week because it was confirmed by his doctor that he did indeed have the swine flu. Why can't we just be told the truth, I am so sick of all these issues that become political and are not taking into account the safety of the students or community. I am not going to pull my child out of school because some children have gotten sick, but I would like to be informed so I can keep drilling into his head to wash his hands constantly and stay away from the children that are coughing and sneezing and appear sick. Come on people!

Swine flu cases need to be accurately reported

I know there is one kindergardner has been out with swine flu. Again, the school did not make any announcement. Either they are not informed by the parent or they want to wait until the number reaches a threshold in order for the school to take it seriously.

swine flu

Let's do our homework-There are several confirmed cases -tests run!Forget the politics!

Why are they covering this up?

I personally know of two children (in Bruns Co schools) who have been diagnosed with H1N1 by their pediatricians. Why is the health dept denying this? It makes no sense.

Lies

Well this is definitely a lie! My younger cousin, who attends South Brunswick Middle School, was out for 10 school days with Swine Flu. It was confirmed by her doctor and she was "home-bound" until the doctor allowed her back to school with a release note.

Conflicting info

That's odd that the health dept is claiming no cases. I know of 5 difference children, in three different schools, that have all been diagnosed by their pediatricians of having H1N1. One of the kids mothers is a nurse who was present when she was diagnosed. How can the health dept make this false claim?

H1N1

According to a few health care workers that I know. They treat every case of type A flu as if it were H1N1. A doctor cannot diagnose H1N1 during a visit. He can only say that the Type A flu (which CAN be H1N1 or regular influenza) is present. It takes longer to get the results then the flu lasts. So even though a doctor may have told you that H1N1 is present it may not be that strain, If this is true Doctors should be explaining this instead of just labeling every flu case N1H1 and scaring people. But with any flu it can cause complications and be dangerous so we should all take precautions. I am not a doctor or health care provider just a parent asking questions to providers.
