Brunswick County moving forward with annexation

The annexation of 6 subdivisions in Brunswick County into the town of Sunset Beach is moving forward. During Monday night’s meeting at the Sunset Beach Town Hall, town leaders approved a resolution of intent to annex. There will be a public meeting about the annexation on February 5, 2009, at the town hall. The town will notify residents about the meeting in the coming weeks.

Forced annexation

Fight forced annexation with everything you have. Demonstrations can be effective. In Salisbury NC, we demonstrated every Saturday from Noon til 1 pm on the town square (for maximum visiblility). If there is a special event in your city, plan to demonstrate during that time as well. Hire a lawyer and sue the city. If you don't fight it, you automatically lose. If you sue them, this may also delay the annexation and thereby save you money even if you eventually lose. Talk to the city council members individually and tell them how you feel. We defeated the city of Salisbury in their annexation attempt by filling out the water and sewer survey form (within the five day limit) which obligated the city to run the water and sewer lines by every home, thereby greatly increasing the cost (from 4.5 million to 36 million) to the city so that it was far above what they could afford to do. We also boycotted business run the city council members. Join us in Raleigh on Jan 6 at the next meeting of the legislative committee on annexation. Forty five minutes of public comment will be allowed. Call, email, and write letters to the legislators and tell them you wnat to see major changes in our oppressive anexation laws. Forty Six states do it a better way. NC should join them.

legislative meeting

I was present this morning at the Joint Legislative Study Commission on Muncipal Annexation. There are many Congressmen who recognize this law needs to be changed. They are feeling the heat from citizens of N.C. Please, help groups like ours by e mailing, calling, etc. these Representives. If you agree with taxation with out representation, the you believe the muncipalities have the right to do what every they want. If you agree that the people have a right to vote on things that effect them, then get involved.,

The Joint Legislation Study Committee on Municipal Annexation is meeting in Raleigh tomorrow. I am with a group from Nash County fighting this annexation. I urge you to go to this website and read the information provided. Contact your Congressmen, and Senators. Contact the Congressmen on this commitee. Forced annexation is UnAmerican. If you agree, help us and other communities fight the municipalities and their lobbist, paid with taxpayers money.
