The Brunswick County School Board is facing a lawsuit from another set of parents concerned about an educator's behavior.

Robert and Kathy Frye have filed suit, accusing school officials of not disciplining former West Brunswick High School teacher and coach David Arrowood, despite knowing about his 'inappropriate behavior' with their daughter.

Arrowood pleaded guilty to sex crimes last year.

The Fryes are represented by the same attorney who is representing the parents of Windy Hagar. The Hagars filed a similar suit against the school after Windy married her coach.

A statement released by school superintendent Dr. Katie McGee says, "Mr. Arrowood was suspended by school officials from his professional duties on April 12, 2006 and ordered not to be on any school property thereafter. The Board of Education took official action on June 20, 2006, and dismissed David Arrowood."

A defense to the lawsuit will be provided by the North Carolina School Boards' trust.

Are our kids really safe anywhere?

It is so easy to sit at home and read or look at the news and believe every word of the usually one sided reports. Out of the total population of the county, how many parents and citizens really get involved at school, or with their kids? How many really know what is going on? Not many, but it seems almost everyone has an opinion on the issues and find it easy to pass judgment. I know for a fact there are bad teachers in our schools, just like there are bad Sunday school teachers in our churches. Some of our school board members, administration and county leaders are as corrupt as they come, just as our, hospital, utility, law enforcement, and every other type of business owners and employees are. YES, in other words, there are corrupt people living in our community, county, state, country, and world. It is not only in our schools. Our school teachers are not the only corrupt people dealing with our children. Do you know if your neighbor is safe for your children to be alone with? Your family members? Your pastor? Your spouse? Do you? Maybe you do, and maybe you don't. Our children are molested, raped, kidnapped, and even killed by these same people mentioned above. How many have been to the school and watched pretty young girls as they flirt with these male teachers? Some of the male students flirt with the female teachers too. Yes, it happens. It happened when I was in school more than 32 years ago, and it still happens now. Sometimes these men are weak and give in to their taunts. I believe the majority of the male and female teachers need to be applauded for not letting lust and sins of the flesh take control of their lives. Unfortunately we do have some teachers that abuse their authority and capitalize on this, and also lead some students astray and take advantage of them. For these few, they should be tried and if found guilty put in a federal prison for a long, long time, if not forever. Also if a teacher abuses his/her authority at one school, they should not be passed off to teach in another school. They should be banned from teaching altogether if proven guilty. Why do I say if proven guilty? Because teachers and people from all walks of life are sometimes falsely accused of things they never did. They should have their say, and that is why the teacher's union supplies legal defense for their members. Who knows, they may have committed the crime, and they may not have. All I am saying, is their are bad apples in every bunch, some are teachers, some are clergy, some are neighbors, some are family members, some are doctors, some are attorneys, some are adults, and yes some are kids too. As for school board members, and administrators, if you don't like the ones we have now, get out there and campaign and get a decent human being elected, or maybe even run yourself, that is if you think your closet is clean enough to withstand background searches and criticisms like the ones we always hear about from the people without a log in their own eye. Who knows, you might even earn my vote next time around.

wheres the truth

the problem is the school board memebers themselves, hobbs home schools his kids, or did and that says alot about his faith in his leadership on the school board, miller is only using the the school so he can run for sheriff and ray gilbert uses it to buy personal items with a county credit card.. come on i did not vote for these people, i voted for someone other than these... we need new faces on the board, someone with children in the school system and someone that cares about the teachers, parents and children.....

board members?

The problem is Katie McGee. Her position is what the board members need to address.

Brunswick Cty Schools

One more comment from me, BACKROUND CHECK..it can be done. I had a job at dollar general one time and went threw backround checks, drug testing......every single person that works with at least children (and thats through collge) should be PERIODICALLY CHECKED..GET IT BRUNSWICK COUNTY! PERIODICALLY!

Hey Rob?

Where did you attend school? I am wondering what went on there that prevented you from learning grammar and spelling. For your info, anyone applying for a job with the Brunswick County School System has to apply for the position through the Employment Security Commission. They are then recommended for interview with the school system. Before being hired, they are now required to have a criminal background check, and this also includes any volunteers in the classroom or school. For years the bus drivers have had random drug tests, and now any employee of the school system can be randomly tested without notice. Rob, does everyone have a record? A rap sheet? Or could some people be first time offenders? Just because a person has a clean record does not mean they can't break the law. I do agree that a person with a criminal record for certain offenses should not be hired by any school system, and that goes for drug users too.

come on

Does it not say the man was dismissed in 2006? What is with you parents? One signs their kid over to the teacher, then bitches about it and another waits a year? Get a job!

Another Teacher Huh

Another teacher, one that might have slipped under the radar if the Hagar case had not made such a impact on the region. Here, leave and go teach somewhere else. Well, not this time. This lawsuit should at least make the teacher's name stand out like a sore thumb if found being a perv. If he did, he should wear the stain FOR LIFE!

And the school board ought to be whipped in public for letting another scoundrel off with a hand slap and permission to go teach somewhere else!

And think of the poor student, whatever the outcome, will be affected some how forever. Now that this is public, the school board should be responsible, like they should have been in the first place.

For my own kids, if the school board ever lets another perv off with a hand slap and a transfer, this tells me I have the right and duty to hunt that bastard down. Then I'll go after the school board. Do your job or leave!

On to the teachers union, what a wonderful organization! They will pay for the legal defense of perverts and child molesters. What are they? Wouldn't this promote bad behavior if the turds knew they had a legal defense fund to back them up?

All I know is that I would be a pretty poor teacher that still paid my dues and supported this. And there are not a few out there that are not pretty poor people to begin with. They fail our kids and won't shut up about a raise. Try really working for a reward that you feel you deserve.

step up

If you think the Board of Education and administrators are doing such a bad job, then why don't YOU step up to the plate, and become a part of the solution. We need better leadership, I agree, but we don't need any more armchair quarterbacks, who want to complain, without trying to make the system better. Get up, and get active, or quit your belly-aching.

brunswick county schools

Well guest you best get moving. the cover-up andlack of supervision by administrators, board, and county council has been going on for years. Nepotism has run rampant and they ain't changing.
